Instagram Introduces New Restrictions for Users Under 18

Ana sayfa / News

As social media grows in popularity, the age of users is decreasing, bringing about some security issues. To address these concerns, Instagram has announced new restrictions for users under 18, introducing a feature called “Teen Accounts.” Here are the details…

Under the Meta umbrella, the popular social media platform Instagram has rolled out its “Teen Accounts” feature in the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia on September 17. This feature aims to provide a safer environment for parents concerned about protecting users under 18.

According to the announcement, the “Teen Accounts” feature will be available in the European Union by the end of 2024 and in Turkey in January. Instagram will automatically categorize accounts created by users under 18 as “Teen Accounts,” and will only lift these restrictions for users under 16 if linked to a parent account.

Meta’s Move for Instagram Comments with Threads!

Meta is looking to boost engagement on its Twitter-like Threads app by introducing new options for Instagram comments.

With this feature, young users will only be able to message those they follow, Reels and Explore content will be filtered, and sensitive content will be less accessible to this age group.

Additionally, Instagram will implement usage reminders for users under 18. After exceeding 60 minutes of use, a logout notification will be displayed, and a sleep mode will be activated from 10 PM to 7 AM, silencing notifications and sending automatic replies to DMs.

Instagram stated, “We understand parents’ concerns and are redesigning our apps with the new Teen Accounts to better support parents and provide peace of mind that their teens are under the right protections.”
